Skipton Homeowners – Protect your new home from risk
Buying your first home is an incredibly exciting time. However, your home is at risk if you cannot keep up repayments on your mortgage. So, it’s vital you protect yourself and your home financially by making money available should something unexpected happen. This money can be the difference between keeping and losing your home. It’s a difficult issue to think about but would you be able to continue to pay your mortgage if the main earner in your household lost their job or became seriously ill? It may not happen to you – we hope it doesn’t – but it might.
Take a typical non-smoking couple aged 30 for example; before they reach 68 they each run the following risks*:
- 69.2% chance of being unable to work for one month or more
- 32.7% chance of becoming seriously ill
- 11.8% chance of dying
Overall, there is a 76.2% chance of at least one of these events happening.

Eliminate the risk of losing your home
While there is no insurance that can prevent these things from happening, it can make dealing with the consequences a lot easier. The money provided by an income protection policy if you became ill and were unable to work, or a critical illness policy if you became seriously ill, are ways that can help eliminate the risk of losing your home.
Even if you already have plans in place already to buy a property in Skipton, there are many new extremely cost-effective options available to consider. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or need immediate help on 07833 430039 or by e-mail: Send me a message online with my contact form.
We can help you review your existing benefits package and build on this foundation if you require further cover. This is proven to be a practical and cost-effective solution. While there is no insurance that can prevent the unexpected from happening, money provided by an income protection policy if you were unable to work due to illness, or a critical illness policy if you became seriously ill, are ways that can help eliminate the risk of losing your home.
Remortgaging doesn’t end with your new mortgage
We all understand the potential benefits of remortgaging. Whether that’s to release extra funds for home improvements or simply to benefit from a better value rate at the end of a fixed term. However, now you have remortgaged, do you know how you would pay your new mortgage if you couldn’t work?
Protect your home and your family
It’s vital that you financially protect you, your home and your family. It’s important to consider how you would cope should the main earner in your household lose their job, become seriously ill, or in the worst case, die. Money provided by an insurance policy can help eliminate the risk of losing your home, and your lifestyle, especially when you and your family are most vulnerable.
While there’s no insurance that can prevent these things from happening, I can help you put plans in place to protect what’s most important to you. There are many extremely practical and cost-effective options that we can discuss. If you already have plans in place, we can make sure that they are still sufficient for your needs.
So, if you have any questions or concerns about your mortgage and financially protecting you and your family, please don’t hesitate to contact me.
Could you afford your mortgage if you couldn’t work?
Life’s unpredictable, as the current crisis has demonstrated. While we think the unexpected will never happen to us, unfortunately it sometimes does. If you lost your job, or were unable to work through serious illness do you know how you would pay your mortgage?
Do you really know what your employee benefits are?
Some of us are fortunate to work for companies who provide a package of employee benefits. However, do you know how generous they are and exactly what protection they provide? Do you know what you’re entitled to should you die or become too ill to work?
Here are some questions to consider:
- How much life cover (death in service) is provided by your employer?
- How much sick pay are you entitled too and for how long?
- Are you entitled to any other EXTRA benefits should you become ill? (For example, critical illness cover?)
Is this enough?
These are important question to ask because the benefits provided by your employer may not be enough to protect you and your family. For example, to pay your mortgage if you were seriously ill, or pay off your mortgage should the worst happen.
How would you pay your mortgage if…?
As the current crisis has shown us, we never know what is just around the corner. If you were unable to work through illness or injury, would you be able to keep up your mortgage repayments? You may be lucky enough to receive sick pay, but do you know how much that would be and for how long it would be paid? If you don’t receive sick pay could you get by on government benefits? The Employment and Support Allowance currently pays between £74.35 and £113.55 a week*.

While insurance can’t remove the risk of you being unable to work, it can make dealing with the consequences a lot easier. Money provided by an income protection policy is one way that can help eliminate the risk of losing your home.
